" I'm seeing quite a few posts around Facebook that point fingers regarding chemical reactions during salon services, swelling lightener, steaming, smoking, damaging hair, etc. Lightener does not react with shampoo. Shampoo does not make product boil, foils steam, hair smoke... What does this is chemicals or minerals that do not play well with each other. Let's look at chlorine for instance. This increase in posts happens to be occurring at the hottest part of the year when people use pools the most, & travel to new areas for vacation where the water is different from what they are used to. Ammonia and chlorine are adversaries on the periodic table of elements, and create a caustic gas when mixed together. It is a huge and dangerous chemical reaction. Monat doesn't have chlorine in it, or other caustic chemicals or minerals for that matter, but pools and city water systems and wells do. During the summer cities often need to bump up the chlorine levels in the water systems to keep bacteria levels low, or treat problems. Metallic salts can accumulate from more evaporation, run off from storms and melt can add minerals to water. Even personal, at home experiments with hair can create a perfect environment for reactions in the salon. What I'm saying is that your shampoo isn't causing this reaction, mineral build up does, caustic chemicals do. It's easy to point fingers and place blame. Just because someone does, doesn't mean the blame is placed in the right place. What has to happen is questions have to be asked to see where routines have changed, treatments should be done in the salon setting to remove mineral build ups, and discussions like this one to help educate on the real reasons adverse things can happen. Professionally, I haven't had lightener swell or get slightly warm in the 2 + years that I've been using the Monat line, I am absolutely certain that this is not a line driven issue"
